The Curse of the Mummy (tummy)

Disclaimer: I adore my little man. He is without a doubt the very best thing I've ever done, and he might only be 11 weeks old, but I really can't imagaine life without him.
He's Brilliant.

However, I hate what having him has done to my body!

Now to be fair, I was never destined for super model-ness. To be honest, up until I was about 16, I'd have considered myself chunky. But, I put in the effort, discovered healthy eating (okay, selective healthy eating), gentle exercise, and ended up with a reasonably toned, curvy size 14 figure.

And I was happy with that! I never really wanted to be super skinny - I like food too much for a start!

And of course I knew that having a baby would take it's toll - I was prepared for the stretch marks & the swollen ankles, but 11 weeks on, I naively thought I might atleast be back in my pre-preggo jeans.

Guess again Leslieanne!

I can get into my back-up-fat-day jeans - just. (As in, I can button them up, but sitting down is painful & potentially embarassing), but that's it.
And I'm a girl who loves her jeans. I have 10 diferent pairs! (and no, I don't think it's excessive!!)

It's not been so bad the last couple of weeks - summer = dresses = yay :) (though all my cute little tea dresses are out on account of the huge new boobs!) - but today it's ben chucking down raining, and the mummy tummy has made me cross.

My maternity jeans are falling to pieces having been worn to death, and I'm bored sick of leggings.

So, action is needed!!
I'm setting myself a goal - to be back in my favourite jeans by the end of the month.
It might be a little over-zealous, but I need the goal, the motivation, so there it is. Gauntlet thrown down!
I know I can't 'diet' (hate that word anyway :P) as I'm still breastfeeding, so i'm just going to be strict - no more naughties (or very few, anyway), healthy snacks, loads of veggies, all that stuff.
And sit ups. I HATE situps, they are evil. But they're also the only sure-fire way I know of flattening le tummy.
(top tip - I usually do them in the bath - tis easier!!)

Wish me luck :)

Aww bless you ... just remember 9 months on, 9 months off (says she who will also want to be back in her pre-pregnancy jeans as soon as this bean is out!!). Deluded maybe. Good luck xx

  2. Take it easy, there's no rush, especially when you're breastfeeding.
I'm not proud, I've just bought bigger jeans :-\
    xx

It doesn't take 9 months if you don't want to. I don't believe in that. What's quite surprised me though is the fact that my body shape has changed big time. My hips seem to be wider apart than before. With only 5 pounds to go, I still don't manage to fit into my pre-preg jeans. No chance. I heard that your body will only completely go back once you stop breastfeeding. So I am not completely desperate. Not yet ;-)

PS: Oh, and my boobs are just enormous. Not nicely big, but just wrong and disproportioned enormous.

Oh honey - I know exactly how you feel - really I do. I was still in my maternity clothes for about 4 months after giving birth and totally depressed about it. It took me 18 months to lose (nearly) all the baby weight and then I got pregnant again!! Trying to get back into your pre-baby jeans is a huge effort. My advice would be to buy one more pair (hey what's one more when you've already got 10?) in a bigger size and then at least you won't be so uncomfotable. Then when they get too big day by day you'll feel that you've achieved something. But however you choose to do it - good luck. It ain't easy!! x

  6. After my son I fit back into my clothes after about 10 months or so, then once I gave up breastfeeding at 12 months I got right back down to lighter than my pre preggers size, yay! Of course I had plenty of time to exercise and stuff whilst pregnant so that helped. Fast forward to baby girl and I put on huge amounts, had no time to exercise and was still wearing mat clothes until a couple of months ago. I just gave up trying to squeeze into tiny clothes and bought a couple of pieces in bigger sizes, they're already starting to get too big but I don't think I'll ever be as slim as I was before. Plus I'm still breastfeeding so my body is storing lots of fat!!
Your baby is only 11 weeks so cut yourself a bit of slack!! I've been replacing naughty snacks with healthy ones and it's working.
Good luck and embrace the bigger boobs, I am!! xx
